I actually don't see myself going to see Silent Hill this weekend. I think I will wait until Monday or Tuesday when the theater will be empty. I'm on a roll though, this will be 3 times going to see a movie in the past 6 months, that may be a record for me.
I'm all over this movie tomorrow. I'm with you, Stacie: this shit better be fucking fantastic, because if not, I may have to remove my eyeballs and keep them in my pockets so I can only see what's important and not what'll let me down after months of anticipation and high expectations.
You know what a co-worker just said to me? She said she was opposed to the poster image (not yours - don't worry) because that's "how males want to see women: without mouthes."
I wonder if the rest of Silent Hill will be drenched with anti-feminist propaganda, or if my idiot co-worker is just a reactionary liberal.
I don't want to say much about it because so many people haven't seen it yet.
I loved it.
Chadwick, I don't agree with the negative comments you heard. Is it flawless? No. Nothing is. But it was fanfuckingtastic.
And Brennon, your co-worker is full of shit...being a bit reactionary. I actually had the thought during the film "Wow, this movie has some really strong women in it.". The men in this film are basically powerless (whether for good are evil) and the men are relegated to secondary characters for a change.
I promised my son (or told him, which, to him, is the same thing) that we'd be seeing it to night. So I'm in for a $9.50 ticket. It had better be worth it. ;)
Reaction is pretty much across the board with most opinions lining up with either loving it or hating it. (Roger Ebert was of the "it was a nice looking mess" opinion.) Fangoria loved it, CHUD hated it, Dread Central loved it, the guest critic at Arrow in the Head hated it. Arrow hisowenself will be weighing in on Monday. I'm guessing you loved it. :)
Over at the message board I hang at (Stomp Tokyo's) everybody is impatiently waiting for the resident Silent Hill fanboy to write his review. He had been pounding the drum long, loud and hard on this flick, so interest in his opinion of the movie is rather high.
I definitely loved it. I wonder how people who have never played the games will react to it, because as someone who adores the games, this movie was like 50 wet dreams rolled into one.
It's a horror movie...is it horrifying? I certainly thought so. The plot is just shy of being too convoluted and messy- it almost crosses, but I think it's coherent if a little heady.
There's nothing else like it, I can say that with confidence. It's a breath of fresh air in the world of horror films, and I sincerely hope Mr Gans continues to make films in the genre.

ReplyDeleteDread Central wrote a love letter to the movie and called it a review. Looking good.
ReplyDeleteMy son and I will be seeing the 7:30 p.m. show, PST. Review will be up shortly after that...spoiler and detail free, like most of my reviews.
I automatically react unfavorably to video game flicks, but this one really does look good. Plus, Radha Mitchell, mmm mmmm.
ReplyDeleteDid anyone see "Slither"? It rocked!
I also hate you Stacie! I hate her headband AND bows! And her one lame tooth.
ReplyDeleteI'm really sad I won't be at the movie with you tomorrow.
Maybe it'll be so good I'll need to see it TWICE!
ReplyDeleteGod, I've never put all my eggs into one basket like this before. If this movie sucks, I will...be...very sad.
It IS a lame tooth, isn't it? Poor thing.
So, "Slither," nobody?
ReplyDeleteI loved Slither. Don't feel alone.

Gasp. But yeah. I'm there.
Early word seems to be...negative. Great visuals, terrible script, and uneven acting.
ReplyDeleteKHAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!

Reminds me of a female friend who started frothing at the mouth when Sarah broke down and cried and John held her in his arms in Day of the Dead. WTF?

I hope you guys like it nearly as much as I did.

His review should be up any minute...

It was a beautiful mindfuck.
Chadwick, I read that JoBlo guest review and...I strongly disagree with that dude about the acting. Across the board.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what different reactions people can have to the same film.
