I know, I know, it's been a while since we've had a Final Girl Film Club meeting. What can I say? I am very very important* and even more wicked very busy**, so you'll take what I can give you and you'll LIKE IT!
Now that the unpleasantness is out of the way, allow me to introduce the next selection up for viewing and discussing:
THE INITIATION!
Yes, it's time we dive head first into some primo, pure Grade-B, mid-80s Drive-In style cheesy slasher goodness, baby.
Indeed, The Initiation (1984) has it all: shopping malls, sorority girls, uh...initiations, evil twins, Hunter Tylo of television's The Bold and the Beautiful, Clu Gulager (Return of the Living Dead), and, as if you need any more than that to get you interested, let me just mention two little words to you:
"Daphne"
"Zuniga"
I'm talkin' 'bout Jo muthafuckin' Reynolds of Melrose Place, Willis! I love Daphne Zuniga. I love Daphne Zuniga. But then, don't we all? I mean, really. She's so...of an era. Spaceballs, The Sure Thing, The Fly II, Gross Anatomy, Pranks...and as I said, Melrose Place. I love Melrose Place so much that I may or may not have considered making out with my Season One box set. I love it almost as much as I love Dallas...almost.
Anyway, I don't want to get off-track here too much. Here's the link to the movie on Netflix (featuring the wrong box art and everything!), and here it is on Amazon, in a 2-pack from Anchor Bay. As always, I'll do a write-up on the due date. If you've got your own site and decide to do a write-up as well, let me know for some hot hotlinkin' action. Otherwise, I hope the comments section here becomes like a cyber-salon, you know, where we can all expound and shit.
I'm going to reiterate now, folks, this is gonna be some B-Grade stuff. Invite your friends over, pick up a twelve-pack, and enjoy all the gratuitous nudity, big hair, slasher violence, shopping mall action, and Daphne Zuniga to be found in this flick. We'll all have cyber-fun together, huzzah!
The movie: The Initiation
The due date: January 15

Awww, but I still haven't seen The Descent yet. Of course, it's coming tomorrow, so you know what this means....
Final Girl Film Club Double Feature!!!
Also, Crystal Lake Memories arrived today. Truly, this is an impressive tome.
I have the Intiation and adore it. I'll be there, or be square. Or I could just lie and do it off of memory...
Tarnation!
I was thinking of Netflixing this one and joining in on the fun, but I see it is not really available. We can "save" it, twiddle our thumbs, and hope for the best; but they don't really have the flick to offer.
Curse you, deceitful internets rental service!
DAMMIT! I didn't even notice it's not available. GRRR!
Hmm. What can be done? Hopefully some video stores will have it; I try to go the Netflix route so people have easy access...
GAH! Final Girl Brain needs to kick into action here.
Okay, I work at a used book store and we don't even have it on vhs, but I think I saw it at Borders...
Of course, we do have a copy of Laserblast on vhs.
Doh! I ran into netflix road block!
Scouring the local stores tomorrow!
Is it me, or does Daphne has a flat rump?
Lunch, you silly git... she's perfection. I think you know this deep inside... ;)
I made out with my copy of melrose place season 1. And it was gooooood.
One day last week whilst I was on vacation in San Diego I pretended to be Jo from Melrose Place. You know, someone from New York all dressed in black and immediately bosses everyone around at their whim.
I was just wondering the other day what ever happenned to Daphne Zuniga.
I'll try to pick this up at Blockbuster and write up a thingy on my site. I've been thinking about expending my site to include dvds. I'd love to participate in your film club.
Looking forward to this one, Stacie.
I'm sorry this flick is hard to find. I try to pick movies that are available on Netflix to make it easy for folks, and I didn't COMPLETELY read the Netflix entry for this...sorry, kids. Hopefully your local video stores will have it in stock.
Meep: I'm with you on the whole dressed-in-black-badass-New Yorker thing. I LOVE the episode where Jo moves into Melrose Place and everyone is practically hugging and all "Oh, we're just the BEST of friends here!" and Jo is all sneery and bitchy.
Reese: you must expand to include DVDs! I command you! I hope you can snag a copy of this flick...do it for Daphne.
Tarnation!
I was planning to get this tonight and neither Blockbuster nor Rogers Video carry this fine film.
Sorry Stacie. Sorry Daphne.
I'll keep checking to see your future picks, Stacie. Try not to be too obscure, luv, although that's part of your charm ;-)
