Faves: that red/white/black Suspiria poster and the last poster... possibly stupid question: what is Aesthetics of Blood? I googled it but can't figure it out.
Stendahl is 'fucked up', but for the novice Argentophile it may represent a lot of later trends in his work - on the negatives: erratic editing, strange narrative jumps, oddly flat story-telling, excessive rape scenes... on the plus: incredible narrative leaps, violent editing, intense sequences, weirdness all over the place!
Maybe something smoother - the Blue Underground edition of Bird With The Crystal Plumage is fantastic, his first film and a beautifully shot, curios, full blooded Giallo. Deep Red is amazing - psychologically scary, twisted, prog rocky, intense and really disturbing on occassion. ANd then there's Inferno! Either hated sequel or masterpiece. I wouldn't really warn anyone off any Argento, even the maligned TV efforts Jennifer or Pelts, The Card Player (under-rated I think) and Sleepless (with it's fantastic score)...
I just saw that Deep Red poster this morning while I was surfing around. I love it.
ReplyDeletebest posters yet
ReplyDeleteI have a question on the second "Phenomena" though. Isn't the name of the group "Motorhead" not "Motor Head" with a space?
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite out of this bunch is the "Deep Red" with the apple cheeked little doll.

ReplyDeleteSo, Stacie, have you decided to give Argento another chance?
ReplyDeleteI got "The Stendhal Syndrome" for Christmas, but I haven't watched it yet. I hear it's awesome and more than a little fucked up. Sounds great, no?

ReplyDeleteRE: Aesthetics of Blood - I found a higher resolution image. It's a poster for an 8-film Argento festival held in 2006. The poster is Japanese.
ReplyDeleteThanks, RD! I didn't (obviously) do any research into it...I just thought it looked...you know...awesome.
ReplyDeleteI do what I can. And, to your credit, it does look awesome. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, rd! And I third it's awesomeness. Really really beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHey Theron

I love the ballerina SUSPIRIA poster! Excllent choices all around.
ReplyDeleteLOL! I just left you a comment asking if you liked Argento and THEN I found this.
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine got me hooked on Argento. He ordered a bunch of the movies off the internet and I borrowed Suspiria first...I was in LOVE...
I can't wait for the next movie to come out this Fall...At least it's slotted to.
