In an attempt to use my newborn
MySpace page for something besides
hooking up with hot chicks who "love to have sex" and will "do anything" on their webcams because they are "so horny", so long as I spend $347298/minute nothing, I wrote a little thingy over there regarding the trailer for George Romero's
Diary of the Dead. So, I don't know, go over there and read it and comment. Or stay here and comment. Or don't do anything.
See if I care!Gawd, why are you always such a
jerk?
awesome graphics! awesome drawings! i wish i could draw remotely that good
ReplyDeleteStacie, don't dismiss the hooking-up-with-hot-chicks thing. That's the backbone of the internet business model. If people don't pay money to ostensibly hook up with hot chicks, we're all going to go back to signal flags.
ReplyDeleteSo go hook up with a hot chick. It's your duty.
(But seriously: my favorite is the rightmost frame of the third row. And, the horror, the horror, you misspelled oeuvre.)
Thanks for the words of encouragement, Bill. I just didn't want anyone to think I'm shallow.
ReplyDeleteAnd regarding 'oeuvre', well, that's what happens when I smoke crack before lunchtime!
When the zombie film renaissance began in earnest with "28 Days Later" I was totally thrilled. Me loves me a good zombie movie. I honestly can't say where the whole thing peaked... Maybe with "Land of the Dead"?
ReplyDeleteI'm thrilled Romero's getting to revisit his zombieworld one last time, but I think it's time to put a bullet in the head of this subgenre, and let it die... at least for a while.
I think the problem with zombie movies is that it's so easy to attach any kind of fear to it. Irish farmers fear Mad Cow disease, so let's make a mutated strain into a zombie virus (Dead Meat). The Thai feared SARS for a while, so let's make that the cause (SARS Wars: Bangkok Zombie Crisis).
ReplyDeleteIt's also ripe for social commentary, as Romero has demonstrated with considerable skill (like the commentary on consumerism in the original Dawn of the Dead).
I guess my point is that as long as people can come up with ways to explore ourselves through zombie flicks, they'll continue to make good ones. If more people insist on making zombie films just because they're cheap, then it'll kill the oeuvre for a while.
(I like using the word too.)
