awesome movie poster friday- the WILLIAM GIRDLER edition!
I nabbed most of these images from a wicked sweet William Girdler fansite I just discovered. I don't know why more horror-schlock fans aren't turned onto him.
Something Is Out There is the title under which Day of the Animals was rereleased after Girdler died. The alternate title and the accompanying poster don't actually tell you shit about the movie.
Attention comic nerds: the artwork for the first Grizzly poster (with the chick sitting by the fire) is by the great Neal Adams. Thrill your friends with your newfound trivia prowess!
"Warning: not for the bloody mary for lunch bunch!" is just plain awesome. And true!

Day of the Animals: "This little (36-year-old) girl has seen it..."
One of the best tag lines ever: "The Devil is her lover now."
What about "the tequila body shots for breakfast gang"? Are we safe?
Awesome selection , Stacie:)
Also, after examining the two Grizzly posters, it appears that yon bear was shrinking, or perhaps there was just less "gut-crunching, man-eating terror" as the film's run went on...
Oh, my. "Love slaves of Satan tortured to blood-dripping death!" Wow...those blurb guys of the past really knew how to bring in the crowds, huh?
It is also interesting to see that the poster for Grizzly used the same "Head Shots of the Main Cast" approach later to be used for the ad campaigns for Scream and its sequels, except that Richard Jaeckel is somewhat less attractive than Neve Campbell...
Wow, no black man ever killed like this!!!
I'm with frightnight, now that's a tagline!
And, pace the Zebra Murder poster, alas, some black men killed pretty much exactly like that. (Which is to say, that movie was based, extremely loosely, on a true story.)
But, wait, y'all, no love for Three On A Meathook?! Seriously, that's genius. Sounds like a lighthearted musical romp through dismemberment in a slaughterhouse.
I don't know why or which
Wrong turn I took
Now life's a bitch
And I'm spitted, legless, 'pon a hook!

Why is the animal in the 3rd DotA poster wearing reflective sunglasses?
"What we got here is a failure to communicate. Plus we lack thumbs."
The third-down Manitou poster is very proto-Matrix in its design. Weird.
And now I want to see Three On A Meathook even more.
The DAY OF THE ANIMALS poster with the black tree silhouette is beautiful! I never saw that before. Thanks for spreading the Girdler gospel !!!!!!
I think it's totally awesome that the King of Cartoons is the exorcist in "Abby"
"Three On A Meathook"? Is that part of a series? "One In A Woodchipper" "Two In A Coffin"
Can you even fit 3 people on a meathook at the same time? Anyone done that study yet?
Love the second *Day Of The Animals* poster. It looks like it could've been a Judas Priest album cover (circa 1982).
Also, how in the world did a movie called *The Zebra Killer* with the tagline "No Black Man Has Ever Killed Like This!" get a PG rating?!?! Curious...
i haven't seen any of the films on that list except for ABBY which was freaking hilarious! i don't watch that much 70s/80s horror because it's a lot more amusing to watch (and make fun of it) with other people and no one i know likes that genre. that seems like a great set of movies...i will put them on my must-see list!
I love the crazy Abby radio spots, if you've ever heard them.
THE MANITOU was one of my happiest seventies horror movie-going experiences!
That and GRIZZLY meant I was going to watch anything Girdler dished up next... and then...
