...but where's the Master of Unlocking?

Months after everyone in the world has forgotten about it, I finally managed to catch Resident Evil: Extinction. I found it to be a bit like a pink, polka-dotted shortbus made out of candy, full of zombie passengers. In other words...other words that might make slightly more sense, a popcorny good time. Sure, it's ridiculous and it cribs from quite a few superior films...but it's nothing if not turn-your-brain-off style fun. I was gonna say that you really can't go wrong with Milla Jovovich doing crazy stunts and kicking ass, but then I remembered Resident Evil: Apocalypse which, in fact, went very, very wrong. Like, I'm punching myself in the face because it's way more enjoyable than this movie wrong. I guess I should be thankful that Extinction didn't make me want to hurt myself at all.

"The Bomb", as the kids say

What really got me jazzed, though, was found on the DVD's special features: a trailer for Resident Evil: Degeneration, a CG movie due out sometime this year. Degeneration is set in the world of the games- in fact, it takes place 7 years after the events of Resident Evil 2 and 3 and features (at least) Leon and Claire. It's enough to give my geeky, Resident Evil-lovin' heart the palpitations! Where's my fainting couch?

I do not care one whit- not one whit, I say- that it's all computer generated; quite frankly, it's got me more excited than 96.4% of the horror movie trailers currently circulating on the airwaves, which is awesome. It's also rad that Capcom is throwing a bone to all the nerds of the world who have seen the RE movies and can't get over that they're not like the games.

Yes! I was really surprised at how much fun RE:Extinction was, too! Took 'em long enough to get around to showing a proper Tyrant...

So, what's your console status, Stacie? Have you got a 360 or a PS3 yet?

Or are you like me, and plan to wait till 2009 when RE:5 comes out?

The Tyrant was awesome! I'm going to simply forget that the second RE film even exists- the 1st and 3rd are hella fun. I wonder, though- are they going to continue the series? The door was left open for another entry, but I thought I read somewhere that Milla was finished.

As far as next-gen goes, I've got a 360- there are some exclusive games I couldn't wait to get my paws on, unlike the situation with the PS3. Nothing's made me want to fork out $$ for that yet. I've got all my fingers crossed that RE5 and Silent Hill 5 are 360 games...I don't want to have to get another console, but those games are the ones that would simply force me to!

So, am I the only person who likes Apocalypse the best? I'll admit to having seen the first one way more times than any rational person should have ever watched it, but the 2nd is still the best.

I'm failing today, I hadn't seen the new "Halloween" and I haven't ever played the RE games (and I'm commenting in reverse chronological order!).

But I have seen Extinction. I'm in the same boat, it was a total popcorn/action/check out this cool shit we can do flick. And it totally worked!

I may not have played any Resident Evil games, but the first 360 game I bought was "Dead Rising." Does that earn me back any cool points?

I think the main reason this new one is fun is because of Russell Mulcahy. Say what you will about some of the films he's made, but he's never been lacking an eye for style and flair. Also looking forward to the animated film.

RE4 is so hard to beat, and I don't generally get scared with movies, but it scares the crap out of me.

I hope the CG movie is like that, totally immersing you in what's going on.

Oh, Ray :( I hope I agree with you but it isn't sounding too hopeful...

I've seen RE1 & RE3 but haven't caught RE2. I really liked the last minute of RE1 and RE3 sort of picked up right at that moment, too. I was really hoping the in-between was going to kick ass.
