It rained yesterday, too, and I went to a used bookstore. I nearly bought the FotoNovel of Nightwing but, hey, I'm not made of money and they wanted $3.50 for that.
This is a british novel I believe from the Nasty fad that dominated horror over here in the 80s. This was supposed to be the first part of a trilogy, and a sequel called The City (guess where the pigs end up?) was released a couple of years later. But no 3rd part ever came...:(
I am so GLAD that I saw your blog. My blog was so serious today. This is EXACTLY why I am doing this. You have absolutely made me smile and really laugh out loud. You have reminded me of the person that I used to be and want to be again. Know that you changed someone's life today-- with pigs of all things! You go on, girl! KC
I can just see the guy who was commissioned to paint that.
"Jack. Got a job for you." "Really? Pete, thanks man, I need the work." "You bet. Here." "The Farm? What, like Animal Farm? Wow!" "Kind of like Animal Farm." "Says they want a pig on the cover. i can do that." "Yeah... not just a pig." "Ok." "A demon pig." (silence) "A demon pig?" "Yeah. With big teeth. (pause) And red eyes." "A demon pig?" (silence) "This isn't what I f*&^ing went to college for!"
I have to say I like this blog...How do i subscribe to it? This whole blogspot thing is confusing - once I leave this page I'll be lucky if I find it again, since there doesn't seem to be much of a search engine - or a way to subscribe...
Hey there...so glad they put your Blog on the sidebar of "Cool blogs to read" :-) Very random and refreshing! Check mine out if you get a chance.. Keep well and keep finding super scary book covers to scare us with! :-) Chell
Wow...that looks awesome. A buddy of mine recently turned me on to James Herbert's mutant killer rat books (I've only read LAIR so far) and Guy N. Smith's killer crab(?!) books (which I have yet to read...but there's six of 'em!). Horray for killer animal fiction!
If you like this book I would highly recommend the fine works of Mr Guy N. Smith. For instance, his book Carnivore contains the phrase "what chance did they stand against this army of attacking pheasants?"
I love your website, baby. It's the freakin' best! (can I say fucking on here...of course I can--it's NC 17!).
Come and check out my horror reviews on filmicability.blogspot.com.
I'm nowhere near as funny as you...not by a longshot. But I love a good horror movie...if it scares me (the ones that make me laugh have to scare me too or they're lame-o).
You're the best. I linked to you, too! You deserve those lammies!
BTW, I went to your favorites movie poster week...I have exorcist, changeling, shining, and a few others in my collection. Oh, also went to tribeca and caught THREE count em THREE great horror films. Two are profiled on the site...
Wow, I've actually read this! I'll never forget that evil pig on the cover. I seem to remember it being pretty good for a pulp horror novel; quite nasty too. The animals mutate after a chemical spill, don't they? I remember lots of juicy descriptions of people being torn apart by ravenous pigs. Even little kiddies get munched. Wonderful. You've just inspired me to root around in the attic and dig up my old copy.
If Hollywood are running out of ideas, why don't they just adapt some old pulp novels like this instead of remaking and ruining perfectly good films?
By the way, lovely blog, Stacie. Hope you enjoy the carnage!
wow scary-ass pig! and based on the response you've gotten, I'm not alone in that thinking. Great blog, not many places you can go and dig through old lost treasures of the horror genre, thanks!
hee!
ReplyDeleteNot the pigs!!!
Thomas Harris's occult inspiration for Hannibal?
ReplyDeleteNow you're giving me Evilspeak flashbacks.
ReplyDeletePigs scare the hell out of me. I must find that book!!!!

ReplyDeleteoh, man I wanna read that! How about doing a podcast of you reading the book? But make sure you use different voices for each character, OK? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThat is one sweet cover... it looks British. I'd snatch that up in a heartbeat.
ReplyDeleteI like you're about me. I'm also quite glad the pig has fangs, it deserves it. I hope he eats some one.
ReplyDeleteOh, sweet Jebus, how has that not been made into a movie?
ReplyDeleteI'd buy that book just for the cover image alone. You'll let us know how the read is, yes?
ReplyDeleteI hope there is a pig in the book named Arnold.
Today sucks because I found out it is possible to make a bad Indiana Jones movie.
ReplyDeleteBut it rocked again because I caught TROLL 2 at a midnight screening.

ReplyDeleteOMG -- I love the podcast/book reading idea. Please, please, please? Give random characters bizarre accents and vocal quirks?
ReplyDeleteHave you seen Isolation? Surprisingly moody and creepy movie about killer baby cows. Sort of a dead-serious version of Black Sheep...
I think I soiled myself when I saw that cover.
ReplyDeleteYep. I did.
Stupid pigs with fangs.
I can just see the guy who was commissioned to paint that.

I love going to the bookstore and finding random, creepy books. You found a good one!
ReplyDeleteThat's probably what those Pigs in Oklahoma looked like after that Tornado today.
ReplyDeleteThat's impressive pic!
ReplyDeleteI'm so scared by that pig...:)
BTW,do you like Phantasmagoria video game?

I second many of the posters - what a cool blog.
ReplyDeleteIs that a pig, or a bat masquerading as a pig?

ReplyDeleteAnd piglet said"let's get daaaangeerousss!"
ReplyDeleteOh, man...I so have to get that book!
ReplyDeleteIt's only a matter of time before someone writes a book/makes a film about a psychotic clown/pig farmer.
ReplyDeleteIt would have all the elements necessary to be as terrifying as they come!
Cheers
Ian
Your blog is a lot of fun!! I love it.

ReplyDeleteEvidently The Farms is the first part of an animals run amok trilogy.

That picture is more effective that most PETA ads.
