The Wednesday Msdfguksefh

Let's kick this off by wishing a wicked HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the fantastically terrifically awesome Adrienne Barbeau, who turns 63 today. What's your favorite Barbeau performance, horror-related or not? Though her turn as the nun-blastin' Christine in The Convent ranks high with me, my absolute most favoritest Barbeau effort in the whole wide world is her work in Creepshow. Wilma is a crank-ass delight, and Ms Barbeau is total perfection.

I am shocked- shocked I tells ya- at the low response I've gotten regarding the Fangoria ticket giveaway I've got going on right this very second. Doesn't anyone want to go to a horror convention during the weekend of June 20-22? What, are you East Coasters too good for that? Hmm? HMM? Yon deadline fast approacheth!
Send me an email: stacieponder at gmail dot com by midnight, June 14 with FANGO in the subject line. Winners will be drawn completely at random, but feel free to send cookies anyway.
Gawd, talking about the East Coast makes me think about Dunkin' Donuts coffee and how there are no Dunkin' Donuts in LA and why the fuck is that? Yes, I can buy a bag of DD at the grocery store, but it's not the same. Must I travel all the way across the country to get a fresh cup? MUST I?

No Ghostella episode today, kids, sorry. I know, it sucks, right? It's not my fault, I swear. I SWEAR. No really, I swear. I'm not even kidding. It'll be back and better than ever next week.

AMC is going strong, however, and this week I talk a bit about horror movie dads. Who did I miss?

  1. I'd love to win tickets to the Fangoria weekend. But... I'm in South Carolina and Secaucus is a bit of a drive. Sad face.

  2. I love, love, love Adrienne Barbeau. I think I have to agree that Wilma in Creepshow is my favorite of her performances; it's just so over-the-top and hilarious. I also kind of think that Rob Zombie's crap-tastic remake of Halloween may have been made better had he kept Barbeau's scene in. The only explanation I can think of as to why it was cut is that the sheer aspect of Malcolm McDowell and Adrienne Barbeau on screen at the same time would have caused the film itself to combust from awesomeness.
    Happy Adrienne Barbeau's Birthday!

  3. Dude - Heroes Con is in Charlotte that same weekend! How are we s'posed to choose?

It's like Sophie's Choice! Only less... important.

  4. I don't know about favorite overall but when Adrienne Barbeau showed up in an epsisode of Babylon 5 which I've recently been watching through that was really cool. B5 earned a lot of points in my book for that one!

...Also, "Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death."

If I could make it to NJ I'd enter or the tickets in a second.

I moved east and can't get Dunkin' Donuts. Everyone here is all about that damned Krispy Kreme. Screw that noise.

  5. Great list on the horror dads. I especially like Terry O'Quinn in *The Stepfather*.

I would also include Everett McGill in *The People Under The Stairs*.

  6. My fave Barbeau role would have to be Stevie Wayne in The Fog, just because of the sexy DJ voice.

Because it's one damn sexy DJ voice.

  7. Favorite Adrienne role...eeeeehhhhhh....Probably The Convent or Escape From LA.

OH, when she played Oswald's mom on The Drew Carey Show! YEAH.

  8. Um, Yeah. Dunkin Donuts though. A coupla us east coast transplants bring some back every year. Pretty hard to find here in Calee.

  9. I liked AB in her Escape from New York costume... she deserved better than her sad fate.

I stopped at a drive-in Dunkin' Donuts in April and they didn't even sell Dunkin' Donuts! WTF?!

  10. Mmmmm, Dunkin' Donuts. They make the best hot chocolate. Man, that hits the spot during the winter. Also, unlike Krispy Kreme, I don't actually feel myself getting diabetes from the doughnuts.

  11. Oh crap, it's starting…Ghostella withdrawal…

Favorite Barbeau rĂ´le? Hmm. I'll just say a guest-starring spot on The Love Boat or Fantasy Island. I always think of her as a '70s hottie.

(Although she was pretty great as Oswald's mom, Dr. Q...)

  14. yeah I noticed the no D&D thing when I was in LA recently. I guess I'm lucky now that you pointed it out! We have about 260 D&D's in a 2 mile radius...well I'm exaggerating but it feels like that. And F Starbucks! They are closing 600 locations !!! lol

  15. I have to admit that I am a little in love with Adrienne Barbeau. And yes, I love Creepshow, and all these other flicks. But the first time I ever encountered her was The Fog, and while The Fog is pretty silly, I love it. I love her in it. Stevie Wayne is the sexiest DJ of all time, and I really, really, really wanted to be her girlfriend. Even when I was that little.

Now, I want to be her girlfriend (yes, I still want to) because of Carnivale. Sigh.... what an beautiful and ambitious show. It was doomed to failure because of this.
