I sorta enjoy thinking on the backstory... not so much on the crazy journalist that typed out the scoop as the dead started chowing down on anyone with warm blood, but that of the diehards; typesetters and press monkeys that stuck it out to get the final edition out on the streets.
Not to mention the delivery boys pedaling away like mad, ducking and weaving as he tossed the papers on doorsteps.
the bit with the newspaper is superb especially as john harrisons music is reaching a crescendo on the soundtrack at that moment, but my favorite moment is when the actual title of the film appears on the screen that is quite magnificent, in fact overall its one of the best opening title sequences of all time. And joe pilato`s constant references to masturbation always make me fall about laughing.
I love the Depression era representation of an alley, with the barrel and everything. Sometimes George Romero is so Preston Sturges.

ReplyDeleteI always felt bad for the poor alligator stuck with all the shambling dead in that opening scene. Guess the Z's don't mess with him, eh?
