awesome movie poster friday- the FAMOUS MONSTERS edition!

Yes, yes, I'm aware that these are not movie posters, they're magazine covers. However, in light of this Sunday's huge tribute to Forrest J Ackerman here in Los Angeles, I thought I'd pay a little tribute to Uncle Forry right here as well. Here are but a few of the hundreds and hundreds of kick ass covers on Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine. This first one is the only issue I still own. Where did they all go?

  1. Fifty bazillion flavors of awesomeliciousness, Stacie.

Did you see that Rue Morgue that had the Forrie Ackerman tribute cover? Really nice articles on him, FM, the Ackermansion, etc.

Also, are you a fan of Ivan Albright?

Verification word: buggling. Take that as you will.

  2. Man, I miss pulpy newsstand mags like these and Creepy and all those.

Going to Monsterpalooza in May? That's out in your neck of the woods, I think.

  4. Aw no. I was so happy to see a clip of The Ackermonster himself included in the extras of the "Equinox" DVD that it inspired me to post one of my first ever movie reviews. It's shameful that his passing went unnoticed by me until just now.

And dammit, I'm not sure I have all of my FMs anymore either. They took up three big boxes which - now that I think of it - have't been seen in years.

So great idea for the tribute covers, Stacie. Did you know Forry knew Lovecraft for goodness sake? (They were far from pals, though ;)

  5. Aw... warm and fuzzy. The covers are instantly memorable for me. Puts me back to the days when I'd buy an issue and live in it 'til the next one came out.

I read Rue Morgue these days, but it's a half hour and done.

Maybe the only thing I miss about being a teenager. Well, that and not having to make rent.

  6. I wish I could get my hands on some of these now. Guess I'll be hunting for them at the next horror con later this year.

  7. I wish I had known about this, I would have loved to have attended.

I did an interview with Forry at his home when I was in college--simply one of the warmest, most gracious man I've ever met.

And then I got to tour the Ackermansion/museum. I could barely speak afterwards.

One of the best days of my life.
