awesome movie poster friday - the SOMETHING OF SOMEONE edition!

Ah, one of my favorite trends from the 1970s, wherein the title of the horror film lets us know that someone has experienced something! The tradition was resurrected recently withthe remake of The Initiation of Sarah and The Haunting of Molly Hartley, but I have no idea whether or not they're any good. I've yet to see 'em, and no one really talked about them.

In related news, I wish The Haunting of Julia would get a GD DVD release already.

  2. For some reason, my brain read the first poster as "The Penetration of Peter Proud." Now that would be an electrifying motion picture! I also think that Shirley MacLaine illustration in the second "Possession" poster looks like a young Mrs. Garrett.

  3. Ok, translation time. Don't have many comments other than that I'm strangely moved to buy a conversion van in order to have the Japanese Peter Proud poster airbrushed on the side.

Ok, the Turkish Peter Proud Kaç Kere Yaşadı is Peter Proud Lived Many Times. The Japanese is just a transliteration: Rīinkānēshon. Spanish is obvious.

The French Eyes of Laura Mars is a literal translation. The Japanese is a transliteration: Aizu. Italian is literal.

The Belgian Possession of Joey Delaney (Perry King?!) says The Devil’s Rite in French and The Spirit of Evil in Flemish. The Spanish Posesion is obvious.

  4. Actually (though rather obviously), the Japanese title is a transliteration of the word "Eyes" only. The rest of the original title is omitted.

  5. Wow, I remember some of these movies as being pretty creepy. The ending of The Haunting of Julia, in particular, is pretty shocking, and who wasn't disturbed when Morgan Fairchild got turned into a dried out old crone in The Initiation of Sarah?

In recent years we've had a resurgence of downbeat horror movie endings. A lot of people seem to find them cliched and predictible, but I still usually find such endings a bracing smack in the puss, at least when they're unrestrained.c

  6. Listening to Colin Towne's music for Full Circle (a.k.a. The Haunting of Julia) now. Holy freaking freakmonkey. I love that film.

  7. So, based on the second Peter Proud poster, I can assume the film is about an arm wrestling champion? Kind of, Over the Top with reincarnation thrown in?

  8. That Ochi Laura Mars poster looks like it should translate as The Boots of Laura Mars.

  10. You mean the third one down? It's The Reincarnation of Peter Proud...I've never seen it. Nor do I have any idea whether or not it actually features a stern woman who wears only a sheer onesie-thing as she paddles around with a boat full of heads!! :D

  11. Oh, one could hope! Heh, well, thanks anyway :) I didn't see that she had paddles..hmm.. looks kind of weird? But it's a nice picture, very arty with the Japanese letters :D
