one thousand

Dear y'all,

So this is it, my big 1000th post. Though I really have nothing profound to say (shock), I couldn't let the moment pass by without acknowledging it somehow. I marked the occasion of my 500th post with a rather lengthy entry describing Final Girl's humble roots and highlighting a few of my favorite posts. Wow, I just noticed that my 500th hit on November 20, 2007- almost two years ago to the day. That's surely significant of something...? Probably not. Anyway, what's happened in the two years since my last major milestone?

Since post #500...

...I think we can all agree that one of the best things that's happened around here has been the introduction of Briefcase Woman, who came along one fine day in May, 2008 to demonstrate the joys that can be had when one votes. Since then, she's spread her enthusiasm all over this blog like...like...well, let's honor her origins and vote for an apt simile, shall we?

Hooray!

...the Final Girl Film Club keeps chugging along, powered by the awesomeness of The Internet. We've covered a whopping 18 films since post 500, and there's no sign of stopping yet. Next up: The Wicker Man on December 14. What movies would you like to nominate for FGFC coverage? Before you answer, take a quick peek at my reviews archive to make sure I haven't already reviewed it.

...I made a movie- a few, really. Ludlow will be ready for mass consumption soon, a thought that's as terrifying as it is metaphorical boner-inducing.

...I've written 85 columns for AMC (holy crapping crap) and I've started contributing to Rue Morgue magazine. Both make me feel like the luckiest girl in the world.

...this little site just keeps on keepin' on, mostly business as usual. Reviews, stupid pictures, blah blah blah. As you know, I love Final Girl more than Donkey Kong loves throwing barrels at plumbers. While I could write exclusively for myself and be somewhat satisfied (being an only child grants me a +15 to both mana regeneration and my ability to entertain myself) (sorry, I've been playing Dragon Age: Origins) (it's so fucking awesome)...well, it wouldn't be the same without you guys reading it. Again, I say hooray!

Okay, now tell me what's been your favorite post or feature or whatevs here on Final Girl so I feel pretty.

What? I'm allowed to fish for ego-stroking compliments every 500 posts, that's the rule I made up.

Here's to 10,000 more posts! HUZZAH!

  1. Congrats! This have been my favorite blog for a long time!

Now is there a way to combine the panty pudding with the peanut butter? Otherwise, I can't accurately cast my vote.

  2. Also Congrats!

I represent the other side who only starting reading the blog last month and it's already my favorite!

Please continue, Stacie, I have this nasty habit if joining on to things right as that end. Except for The Wire. I started watching that from the beginning. So I got that going for me.

I do love your blog though.

  3. Congratulations!

That's a whole lot of effin posts! ;)

PS - In any poll where there is a "your mom" choice, that's where I go. No matter what the other choices are. I'm so predictable.

    word verif: abuse

  4. Brava on your millennial post! You know I love Briefcase Woman and all of her weird proportions and unnerving enthusiasm like I love Christmas.

I can't really pick out any one post that stands above the rest (especially since my eyesight has sucked balls the last few months, prior to my current injection therapy), but reading about your undying love and devotion to Paul Reiser always gladdens my heart.

  5. Congratulations, Final Girl! It has been a pleasure to read your blog over the years. Here's to you.

  6. Congrats aswell from me!
I can't really remember when I started reading your blog but what got me hooked was your ability to find those absolutely awesome posters from around the globe. That and that just like Yum-yum from the House of indulgence-blog we have scarily similar tastes in movies, music and pop culture. Keep up the good work.

  7. You know. The writing. Best metaphorically berserk cinema-based gonzo awesomeness in the history of ever.

    Work it, girl.

  9. Congratulations. Love your blog, but a little concerned that Edward Woodward died mere days after you announced The Wicker Man as the next Final Girl Film Club entry. Just sayin'.

  10. SP/FG! EVERY post is my fave post. Damn you for your talent.

I just want to point out that Dec. 14 is my birthday, and I will be participating in this Film Club..in honor of my birth. And in honor of you, Stace, cuz you deserve every honor there is. Here's to 10,000...

  11. Hooray, I feel so pretty!

Thanks, guys. Gareth, you've given me an idea...perhaps the next FGFC selection will star Paul Reiser...I'd choose Aliens, but then if my plan backfired and Sigourney Weaver or Bill Paxton or...well, anybody except Paul Reiser died I'd be beside myself.

Oh, fine, I don't want him DEAD. Everyone needs an arch-enemy, after all.

  12. Congratulations!!

Honest truth: I found this site recently because of Mickey Rooney's "The Manipulator." Looking for information online to confirm that I SAW what I had just seen. And there was The Final Girl review!

(And I even watched it the whole way through)

I am now happily working my way through the reviews archive, savoring each one. And I'm sure it will also suggest some films to me I haven't seen!

And here's mine to everyone else: Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things. ... OMFG.

  13. I love Final Girl so much. And it's all because of you Stacie. :) I even think this a place everyone with a sense of humor can enjoy, even non horror fans. But why hang out with them? they suck. So congratulations!

  14. I found this place by mistake and don't regreat at all... loves it here. My fav entries are the ones Melrose Place related!

  15. I've only been reading for a few months and have *significantly* increased my horror movie viewing. Just recently I've seen Night of the Demons, Diary of the Dead, Return of the Living Dead 3, [Rec] (talk about a freak-out), The Haunting, They Live, The Stepfather (2009), Candyman, Hardware, Sisters, Slaughter High, Halloween H20, Dawn of the Dead (2004), The Crazies, Creepshow, Sleepwalkers, Let The Right One In, Godzilla movies on Joost (and I'm just about to watch Night of the Creeps on Crackle.com) all directly or indirectly thanks to the influence of Final Girl.

  17. Congratulations on reaching 1K!! I found your lil blog about a year ago and have loved it ever since. I have to admit I was a lil starstruck when you replied to some of my comments. Keep on keeping on... always a pleasure to sample your particular flavor of crazy... You f'n rock!!

  19. Oh, Crud!

I responded to FGFC choice under the 23:45 Ju-On pic thingie....

Grrr. Anyway, "The Creature From the Black Lagoon".

Oh, and my security word to post was "shagdox". I think that may be my new favoritist word.

  20. Congratulations, Ms. Ponder, on this happy and most blessed anniversary occasion!

Film Club suggestions? I have some.. I've been silently following along for awhile, but I think I'm ready to put my keyboard where my, um, eyes are?

I got to see Andy Warhol's Flesh for Frankenstein in 3D (with skyped Udo Kier introduction!) last weekend, and it would be nice to bond with the FGFC family over the charming moment wherein young Udo learns about life by fucking death in the gall bladder.

Also, I've heard really good things about The Ninth Configuration (aka Twinkle, Twinkle, Killer Kane), and Poor Pretty Eddie (rape-revenge flick with Slim Pickens as an evil Elvis impersonator. Also, Shelley Winters, in some capacity). And finally- and I know I've been banging this like a drum named Your Mom for a while now- but Satan's Little Helper really is something special, just as good as Squirm and Just Before Dawn.

  21. Also, I don't know about Paul Reiser, but I read a review of something recently which included the phrase "a mysterious bloodbath involving Cheri Oteri and French Stewart".

  22. Congratulations! Keep up the sterling work. :)

  23. I've also heard only good things about The Ninth Configuration, and now after having seen it, I can not for the life of me imagine why. Except for maybe the bar fight scene? That scene, an awesome DVD cover(that suggested some 2001 Kubrickesque shit was about to go down), an intriguing title and being written by the author of the Exorcist is surprisingly all it has to recommend itself. What a waste of a Netflix queue slot! Okay, except for the bar fight scene.

  24. No contest! Your "Food of the Gods" post! I found your blog through After Ellen and Ghostella's Haunted Tomb. I read, watched, highly enjoyed...and then FOTG. Oh my! I rented FOTG from Netflix, RIGHT AFTER coincidentally returning from British Columbia! I sent your blog link to my friends! I wrote you a fan email! I tried to explain your awesome-tude to my girlfriend!

Your blog gives me happy times and scary times, which are happy times, too.

  25. I'm the prettiest girl in the worrrrrllllddddd!

Thanks, kids. I love reading about how you found your way here, particularly when it's something completely innocuous, yet you were compelled to stay. That's such a huge compliment.

Good suggestions for Film Club, too...maybe a B&W classic next time. They are sorely underrepresented around here. I could claim that it's because I cover slashers, but that limitation went out the window a long time ago.

  26. Here's how I found my way here: A long while ago The House Next Door linked to something of yours, but credited you as "Primal Girl". You commented that the name is actually Final Girl, but you'll keep Primal Girl in mind if you ever start a cannibal flick blog. I thought that was pretty funny, so I followed the link and you've been at the top of my "Procrastination starts NOW" bookmarks folder ever since.

Actually, fine, that's a lie. I found you by googling "booll woob sex girle".
