awesome movie poster friday - the 2008 edition, part two!

Still wrapping my head around Martyrs, trying to figure out what I'll say when I finally write about it.

  1. Brilliant movie. And Mylene Jampanoi is too fine for words.

  2. Almost exactly the approach I took (http://zombiecupcake.blogspot.com/2009/07/blinks.html). I never did update further about it. Even now I am still a little stumped as to what to say. I liked it... but that's as far as I get - and even "like" seems somewhat inappropriate a word.

  3. Some amazing posters (particularly the Rosemary's Baby green one), too bad the movie turns into such an over-the-top pedestrian, terrible violent-to-the-point-of-parody POS after an amazing first half.

    SPOILER ALERT

And how come nobody told Luagier that it was a bad idea to kill off the only sympathetic character in favour of a cardboard crazy chick?

  4. A few folks did a write-up for it on my site. I wish I had your skill at digging up movie posters.

  5. Oh those French people and their movie posters with naked people on them!

I'm being Lucy for Halloween- end of story.

  6. Eh, oui.

“Elles n’ont pas fini d’ĂȘtre vivantes.” With a little looseness, “They’re not finished being alive.”

    Long.
    Methodical.
    Implacable.
    Unbearable.

And this is only the beginning.

And that’s all I got, lacking an exact translation for “nekkid.”

  7. Definitely and interesting movie.
I kinda laugh at all the folks wanting to lump it in with the Saw and Hostel crap though...
To me it's a direct descendant of Dreyer's 'The Passion Of Joan Of Arc'. Transposed to a time where folks are a lot less confident in the existence of gods.

  8. Yes, please review this movie! It has really stuck with me & I plan to rewatch it again, but I have to get my nerve up.

  9. It took me like two weeks after watching this movie to write up a review. And it took me months to give it re-watch. This was seriously one of the truly shocking horror movies of the last few years.

Love these posters! I HATED that they changed the DVD box to that picture of the ghost thing behind the tub. Totally not the point of the movie....ugh.

The one with her crouched down by the wall is my fave.

  10. I'm probably in the minority here, but I LOATHED this movie. It enraged me. I actually had to fast forward through all the torture scenes because they were so over the top and horrifying.

Yes, I "get" the whole point of the movie. I just don't think it was a point worth making.

  11. "Yes, I "get" the whole point of the movie. I just don't think it was a point worth making."

    Well put. I agree completely.

  12. I didn't get the point of this movie. I hated it. It was well made (and very well acted). But "smart" torture porn is still torture porn.

  13. Stacie, did you ever review this movie? I agree with the last few people - I hated it. It's pretty decent filmmaking in the purpose of a really stupid, pretentious idea.

(I also disagree with the term 'torture porn', since there actually is, you know, porn with torture in it, but that's a separate topic.)

  14. I have not reviewed it yet, but I disagree with the people who hated it.

  15. Post effect of movie, I have fallen in love with Jampanoi.

  16. Both women are, like, ridiculously beautiful. And dangit I still need to write about it!
