It's about time Stuart Gordon got some love around here- after all, he did so much to mess with my mind back in mah yout'. Besides, it finally gives me an opportunity to post Robot Jox posters. Oh, and a couple of these are DVD covers, but what are ya gonna do?
Holy shit, Dolls! I haven't seen that for.. FOREVER.
ReplyDeleteI'm off to root through my dusty VHS pile right now!
SINEMA OBSCURA!
I have that second "Re-Animator" poster in my medicine cabinet! I love the composition, the colors and the fact that the head weirdly resembles Al Pacino. That second "Dagon" poster is also very fine. Mmm... "Dagon."
ReplyDeleteI completely missed the existence of "Stuck." Wow.
Robot Jox was the absolute King Shit Lord of all space and time! Someday they will make a live action Shogun Warriors movie and Jox will have it's day in the Sun again. Then Michael Bay will realize how much suck he has inflicted on the world and he'll lower his head and walk into the ocean.
ReplyDeleteSecond "Re-Animator" poster - oh, Japan, you always go for the fucking win.
ReplyDeleteThose make my pineal gland quiver....
ReplyDeleteWho's gonna believe a talking head? GET A JOB IN A SIDESHOW!
ReplyDeleteand yes...god bless the Japanese.
Odd thing is, before I read this, I had decided it would be "Lovecraft Movie Night". Got From Beyond & Re Animator out to watch (along with Haunted Palace with Vincent Price just to mix it up a bit). Great minds and all that.
ReplyDeleteStuart Gordon needs some love, he's made some great flicks. Wish he was better know.
Haunted Palace is pretty rad, and "cat dead...DETAILS LATER". The fact is, the establishment doesn't take robot fighting movies seriously. Well...fuck the establishment...coming straight from the underground...
ReplyDeleteHave always loved that first Reanimator poster. I have the DVD with the test tube of the glowing reagent. It's kind of awesome.
ReplyDeleteI LOOOOOVE Stuck. Really, anyone who hasn't seen it and has a strong stomach and a dark sense of humor needs to rent it.
ReplyDeleteIf anything, this just makes me sad that he's done some real shit since Re-animator. Nowhere near the level of shit as Brian Yuzna, but still.
ReplyDeleteSomeone must have hocked their entire Stuart Gordon collection because I just found all of these at a pawn shop recently! Who would do such a thing?? They also had all of the Phantasms and all of the Toxic Avengers. I'm not sure whether my reaction leaned more towards happy to fill in a few gaps in my own collection or if the shock had me plotting the perpetrator's public flagellation.
ReplyDeleteGordon's movies are generally so interesting visually that the make great inspiration for the posters. Thanks for showing many of the international ones!

ReplyDeleteI really have a soft spot for Castle Freak, I love that French poster! And Japan, can we be best friends forever please?
ReplyDeleteSTUCK is as marvelous as everyone here says it is.
ReplyDeleteI also loved EDMOND, the Mamet-scripted, Gordon-directed play-to-film. Has a great cast made up of both Mamet and Gordon regulars, all propelling title-role-actor William H. Macy toward a powerful reckoning.
Gordon's one of our unsung great filmmakers.
Dolls was my first horror movie -- that's official although I'm sure there wer ebits and pieces of others.
ReplyDeleteI read the news that a "Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots" movie is made, I wonder why they don't just do a "Robot Jox" remake, and BOOM, it's on your site. :)
ReplyDeleteSome great posters there, I might have to hunt some of these titles down.
ReplyDeleteI was given the Thai From Beyond poster by a friend who spent his summer there. I haven't the heart to tell him I got fake blood all over it - but, honestly - it doesn't do it a bit of harm..
