SHOCKtober: Lena Headey's Top 20
Today's Special Guest Top 20 comes from actress Lena Headey, who happens to be a huge horror fan. I don't mean she's huge- she's actually rather small- but I mean that her love for the genre is boundless and she's always down to watch something scary. She told me I'd hate myself after watching Martyrs and she was pretty much right. I've introduced her to a few movies I love with about a 99% success rate, although I don't know if I'll ever truly forgive her when she said she didn't like Pieces.
HOW CAN YOU NOT LIKE PIECES?
Anyway, given her affection for Halloween and horror movies as well as her experience in such genre flicks as The Broken, Laid to Rest, and the classic* The Cave, I figured I'd ask her to tell us what her 20 favorites are. She pooped out before she came close to 20, but that's alright as she had to be on set at 4:30am for HBO's Game of Thrones and her brain hurt. I guess that's an excuse.
*not a classic
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974, Tobe Hooper)
Just cause it's pure bloody brilliant and there ain't no finer movie to watch at a drive-in.
Wolf Creek (2005, Greg Mclean)
Slightly believable- I will never backpack in the outback.
Child's Play (1988, Tom Holland)
Chucky: creepy little shit.
The Hills Have Eyes (1977, Wes Craven)
I think that started me on the road to horror addiction.
Let the Right One In (2008, Tomas Alfredson)
Just beautiful. Every shot was a painting and the two leads broke my heart a little.
Martyrs (2008, Pascal Laugier)
I just think it was a well executed concept. It held my interest and the first time I saw it I actually felt really angry...don't know why.
Black Christmas (1974, Bob Clark)
OBVIOUSLY for the glass unicorn.
The House of the Devil (2009, Ti West)
Controversial I know, but I just thought it was a well-done budget horror.
The Silence of the Lambs (1991, Jonathan Demme)
Hopkins/Foster..."It rubs the lotion on its skin!"...Nuff said.
Session 9 (2001, Brad Anderson)
I loved that one you showed me...Section 9??? You know what I'm on about?
The Lost Boys (1987, Joel Schumacher)
Lost Boys, of course!!! I forgot that...what with my youth being so far away. I wanted to snog Jason Patric and Kiefer.

Horror lover, great actress and super foxy. Lena Headey you are the whole package!

I just discovered Lena Headey recently. Watched The Red baron and thought, "She's pretty...I wonder who that is." She was in an interesting movie called Tell-Tale, sorta loosly based on Edgar Allen Poe's famously disturbing poem, which wasn't exactly a horror movie but was pretty gory at times. Anyway, she's pretty solid, in my book.
A terrific list by Lena, again she proves she's rad to the Nth degree - yes, the NTH. But I just have to say that OH MY GOD I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT HER PLAYING CERSEI LANNISTER IN A GAME OF THRONES!!! Great casting!
How can she not like PIECES!?!?!?
Seriously...
"I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT HER PLAYING CERSEI LANNISTER IN A GAME OF THRONES!!!"
ME. TOO. I'm so excited for that show, even though I don't fucking get HBO. I geek out on her occasionally- "YOU'RE CERSEI LANNISTER DO YOU REALIZE HOW FUCKING AWESOME THAT IS?" and she's like, "The wig is really heavy." :D
Yeah! Homegirl has got good taste.
Seeing the love for THE LOST BOYS gives me warm fuzzies.
cool person with cool choices.
Lena Headey was in Gossip and I looooove that movie. Not horror but a really good little flick.
I just the Lost Boys at a revival screen. Kiefer = **swoon**. Those boys are hawt!
I just re-watched Lost Boys recently, too. Still fun. What cinema really lacks nowadays is oily, long-haired, shirtless sax players!
Interesting choices from an interesting actress. I'm especially gratified that she included SESSION 9. She did a TV movie in the UK which got a U.S. theatrical release called THE SUMMER HOUSE that was pretty fluffy but I still enjoyed it, mostly due to her and Jeanne Moreau. I like to amuse myself by imitating Lena saying "I'm marrying a man nobody likes; I thought it was only me!" and Moreau's line reading of "Happiness? Good God! One must nehwah expect that fwom mahhriage!"
The BEST way to view Lost Boys is a beach screening in Santa Cruz. Seriously, folks, can't beat it.
Oh and LOVE Lena.
Stacie-you can come to my house to watch HBO and Holy Bunch of Fucking Awesome-Game of Thrones. :-)
