FINAL GIRL explores the slasher flicks of the '70s and '80s...and all the other horror movies I feel like talking about, too. This is life on the EDGE, so beware yon spoilers!

Well, well...

...what have we here?

First of all, you get +50 nerd points if you said "Well, well...what have we here?" in Morrigan's voice. You get +50 cool/have a life points if you've no idea what I'm talking about.

Second of all, what we have here is this:

...and this:

...and this:

End Credits (from "Ludlow") by James Barry

My pal Andrew of Gonzoriffic done went and mastered me up a DVD, and I done went and made a cover, and the awesome James Barry done went and got hisself a music blog where you can hear more selections from Ludlow as well as other tasty tidbits of his work.

So now what? Do I wait forever on the chance that a distributor will pick this up? Do I wait to save up the scratch to get a whole bunch of them printed and sell them directly? Do I put it out through Amazon's print-on-demand service and let them take about 50%? Do I say fuck it and keep the whole Ludlow extreme D.I.Y. spirit going and sell DVD-R copies (with, you know, a real DVD case and insert and all, but still- DVD-R)? Effing decisions. What do you think, oh Internet? What would you do if you were me? What would you want as a consumer? Can you believe I had so many beans for lunch?

Hmm, I don't know a ton (or anything really) about distribution etc. To me it sounds like the easiest would be Amazon's PoD, but giving up that much of the money would blow (industry term). I'd keep that on the table, but way in the back. I myself would be fine buying a DVD-R from you directly but that would be a ton of extra work for you when it takes off and becomes the hot must have item of the year!

In short (well ok it was long), I have been of no help at all. But I still wants me a copy one way or another! Ya dig?

Stacie Ponder said...

Ha! No, that's definitely helpful. Amazon would be good because people could order it directly from there and I wouldn't have to do any work, but lawd they take a chunk. DVD-R seems to keep with the spirit of this thing, if people would actually buy them. Maybe I could upload to Amazon for VOD downloads as well...hmm...

However it becomes available, yes- I anticipate Black Friday/Tickle Me Elmo-style hordes and trampling! :D

Another option may be to start out the dvd-r route and if orders start piling up too much you could more easily justify getting a bunch of them printed up to fill the orders.

I've ignored the distributor part because I'm clueless about that....unless you are willing to film an additional scene where Toxie walks through the frame, then maybe Troma would pick it up.

I echo Pierce and would love a screener regardless of which route you take. Much love.

DVD-R please, but that's because I'm anxious to see "Ludlow"

Amazon sounds like highway robbery, but whatever decision you make will be ok.

Blue Seven said...

It looks great. I would totally buy one.

LUDLOW should be exclusively VHS only. Not only that, if someone wants to order it, it gets shipped to the alleyway nearest their house, and hidden behind a dumpster in a plain manila envelope with "Ludlow" written on the tape with a sharpie. If they watch it, they don't die within seven days, but instead, they get perpetually itchy toes a month after watching it. The only way to reverse the curse is to SEND LOTS OF MONEY TO STACIE PONDER VIA PAYPAL!!! You must do so while watching the movie again (so the tape can look on and verify that you are indeed sending money over the internet and into your triumphant pockets).

Madame, here is a blank check. Write any amount on here and I will pay it for a DVD of Ludlow.

Order a 100 from a commercial printer/copier, sell them on your site and other internet sites for twice what you paid and cross your fingers that you sell at least 50. Put me down for one and I would so totally shill for you.

FatalPierce said...

One thing is certain, we will all shill for you!

Stacie Ponder said...

Heh, you guys are all so nice! After all this time and all this talk, I guarantee you're going to finally see it and be all "That's IT?"

:D

FatalPierce said...

Don't be silly. If we are disappointed we'll just come to your house and throw rotten tomatoes at you as you go to the store. Then you'll challenge us all to a Rock Band duel and it'll turn into an epic party.

Thats how these things work.

Stacie Ponder said...

I wouldn't mind at all if you guys did it old Frankenstein villagers-style, with torches and the such. Then you guys can set fire to my house as I climb up on the roof...I can snarl and wave frantically as the flames climb higher, soon plummeting to my death. Then one of you can say,

"'Twas the idea that she could make movies that killed the beast."

...and it'll be AWESOME!

Nick Mullins said...

Maybe you could do a poll to see how many of your readers would buy a DVD-R if one were available. Then you could see how much work you'd be in for.

I'm all for doing the DVD-R now and still trying to get a distributor.

Mike McFarland said...

That cover art looks great! I would totally order a DVD-R or a pressed copy from you directly.

LordSlaw said...

Stacie, I too would be most interested in purchasing a DVD-R directly from you. I like knowing that most of my dollars are going directly to the artiste. Yes, and I too would jump on the shill bandwagon.

I knew the Morrigan line but chose not to ape it coz i'm a total smartass motherfucker. Do I get a "omg stoney... if only i was gay/straight/gender dysphoric/married/single/divorced/swinger i'd so do you" point?

I say torrent Ludlow on an outdated P2P engine like E-mule and hit it with a "13 y.o. boy/ mother incest porn" tag and watch it go viral overnite.

you won't get a coin out of it, but it's all about the art rite?

Presale your movie to your fans. Use that to burn a shit ton of them.
I did a run of 1000 DVDs with full colour cover, disc printing and replicated, wrapped in plastic for about a 1.80 per disc. Which to cover that cost, would involve a hundred of your peeps here to pur chase a 20 buck disc.
and you'd still have 900 to whack people over the head with, frisbee at passing cars, send in packs of six as Ludlow Drink Coasters to that family member you never know what to buy for Christmas.

Missy Y. (formerly A Case of You) said...

I think I agree with Nick. If you did the DVD-R you could still look for a distributor, right? I think that is the smartest route because it guarantees people will see it but still leaves the option of becoming mad famous and acquiring many riches. No?

Besides, I want to this effing thing already.

John L. said...

For what it's worth, I'm just an RSS lurker (who doesn't even particularly care for the cover art), but I'm still quite interesting in buying a copy of the movie.

Scare Sarah said...

I'd buy it.

Stacie Ponder said...

Oh, Highly Caffeinated, you took the idea right out of my head! I think I will do just that.

Thanks for all the feedback, everyone. You guys are the BEST. Seriously.

I like HC's two-pronged purchase system - pre-sell DVR's to a bunch of us, perhaps, then maybe re-press the thing (with a barcode and everything) to sell to folks what don't know you via Amazon or wherever.

I also like Barry's end theme to your film.

As soon as I saw the Ludlow DVD menu I immediately took out my wallet and threw it at my computer screen. Whatever you do do it soon!

I say do it yourself. Way back in the olden cassette days,(1983) my band sold the bejeesus out of our homemade cassettes. You have a great platform to sel l to us rabid fans. And you don't have to go on tour in a smelly ass van. I say screw Amazon, and make with the DVD-r's. Damn the man. When you have made enough to print better ones do it. Damn the man(Yet still again) UHURU.(Swahili for freedom) not the str trek knind.

Kai said...

I agree, cut out the middleman and do it yourself. As long as you ship worldwide (to Sweden) I'll be peachy.

CashBailey said...

I'll pay for a pre-order, Stacie, if that's the way you choose to go.

Veronica said...

I'm interested too!

Marvin the Macabre said...

I say go with an initial offering of homemade DVD-R's for us Final Girl O.G.'s. They should be signed and numbered and include an original one-of-a-kind piece of stick figure art (or something). That way, when your movie becomes a classic of the genre, we'll each have a priceless collector's item.

Kmork said...

I'd buy a version released on DVD-R for sure.

Pearce said...

I have no useful suggestions, but I'll buy this regardless of the delivery format.

-Chris- said...

I don't know anything about how all this DVD releasing works, but I do know that I'm totally buying a copy whenever and however you decide to release it.

You could look at DVD Duplication services. I used to work at Discmakers and they're very good at what they do!

I am overwhelmed by the niceness floating around here, you guys, seriously. :)

Woodshood, that's the plan! And if they come recommended...Thanks!!

Do you have a trailer cut together?
Also wherever you produce your DVD's be careful to retain your rights to your material.

Stacie Ponder said...

Yeah, there's a teaser trailer right here.
