awesome movie poster friday - the 1976 edition!

  1. That second Omen poster is unsettling on so many levels. I'm thinking about using it as a template for my stationery. Or a really fucked-up Valentine's card.

  2. That 2nd Omen poster (featuring the gargoyle with a huge baby up it's ass) is just so wrong on so many levels. Awesome.

  3. Thanks for posting these! Squirm is one of my faves! Used to freak me out as a kid, especially that wormface guy!

  4. I love how the second 'Squirm' poster rips off/pays tribute to 'Jaws.'

  5. Random thoughts (but aren't they all?)-

I was too young to see any of these movies in 1976, but old enough to want to.

Boy, the Japanese had no shame about ripping off the JAWS poster, did they?

"Invasion der killerwurmer" sounds like the sort of fake German phrase Sid Caesar would have come up with.

That German poster also makes it look like SQUIRM is set in 19th-century Austria.

I know TRAPPED probably stinks, but I really want to see it. The power of a great tagline.

Ditto for THE PEOPLE WHO OWN THE DARK (also a great title).

Is ULTIMO DESEO about a cult who worships the sexual power of peaches? It doesn't matter. My 14-year-old self would have constucted elaborate fantasies around this poster and that possibility. I, of course, have out grown that phase of my life. (Mmmmm...peaches...)

The 2nd OMEN poster- CAN NOT UNSEE! CAN NOT UNSEE!

4th OMEN poster- ditto, with the side note that the crease in the poster makes it look like the strangest MAD Magazine "fold-in" EVER.

I need to see THE LITTLE GIRL WHO LIVES DOWN THE LANE again soon.

The last 2 BURNT OFFERINGS posters are great examples of two common poster styles- the "mugshot", with brief character descriptions, and the "literary" (like the first LITTLE GIRL WHO... poster) with the eerie text. Interesting to see both used for one movie- they probably weren't certain how to sell it.

Verification word- "reacit": Responding to something with silence.

  8. The guy in Squirm who says, "You gonna be da worm face!" always makes me laugh.

  9. Yeah, that second Omen poster is fucking amazing. Is it Polish?

Andrew, TRAPPED is actually fairly well-regarded, but better known under the title WHO CAN KILL A CHILD?
