Happy Anniversary to The Silence of the Lambs

That's right kids- as my pal JA pointed out at My New Plaid Pants, The Silence of the Lambs is 20. Twenty. Twennnntyyyyyy GD years old. This doesn't seem possible- why, I saw Silence in the theater (a couple of times, in fact) and I'm only 18.

Anyold, I felt like giving Silence some love today. But how? I've already reviewed it. I've already talked about how it's one of my favorite horror films. I could go on and on about the genius way Jonathan Demme puts the audience squarely in Clarice Starling's cheap shoes by having every character who speaks to her look directly into the camera, making eye contact with the viewer. I could talk about how and why it's really the best work Jodie Foster's ever done in her lengthy career. I could talk about how the true sneaky ninja superstar of the film is Kristi Zea's impeccable production design. But, you know, it's raining outside and so I feel like going to browse at the used bookstore (it's this weird primal reaction I have to rainy days...I don't get it, so don't worry if you don't get it)...therefore, I will simply post up a gallery of delightful images from the film. Happy Anniversary, The Silence of the Lambs! Don't worry- I can't smell anything.

Rainy days are the best times to browse used bookstores. But any day will suffice, really.

And I'd just like to point out that this film's beautiful photography is courtesy of Tak Fujimoto, whose other credits include Terence Malick's Badlands, Death Race 2000, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and The Happening. Crazy, right?

Now I'd better be off... I've got some lotion to put in the basket, if you know what I mean.

Hate to disagree with you, but I'd rather watch Jodie in The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane.

"Don't worry- I can't smell anything." OMG, I didn't even get that at first!
And there's nothing like browsing a bookstore on a rainy afternoon--is it the quality of the light? They always seem so bright and cozy when its grim outside.

Argh! I just wrote about this movie and forgot to mention that it was twenty-years-old.
I will always be moisturized thanks to The Silence of the Lambs. And I will never, ever trust anyone with a cast because they'll probably just hit me, put me in a well, and steal my skin.

SotL is literally my favorite movie of all time, and I am SO bummed that I never got to see it in the theater. I love the little moments, like that scene with Clarice in the elevator, that create the subtle sense of unease.

Regarding the elevator photo, I had completely forgotten George Lopez was in this film.

agreed.. its a great flick.

i think one of my favorite parts is actually one you captured in one of your screencaps here. THe scene where anthony hopkins just beats that cop to death with the billyclub.. his face completely deviod of expression the entire time. awesome!

p.s. did you see the trailer that came out today for the new computer game DEAD ISLAND? i am fucking GIDDY with excitement over this one. you GOTTA check it out...

I love that scene so much too. I love how it's silent except for the Bach playing in the background. And the blood gently splattering his face and shirt is quite beautiful.

It was a happy little movie and I was sure that all those nice people in Law Enforcement had ol' Hannibal perfectly secured. Certainly ONE FREAKIN PAPERCLIP would be enough for him to escape the prison, kill several people and end up in a non extadition country. That would never happen. Right? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Well, that's good, because the cast thing was based on real life.

"Ripped from the headlines," as they like to say on that show that's on TV.
