More one vote movies on the "what readers have been scared by" list (that's a terrible, if accurate, name for this list). Only one vote, still. For some of these movies...one vote. Really, y'all? You guys are so unique I could puke!
160. Fright Night -- 1985, Tom Holland
159. Dolls -- 1987, Stuart Gordon
158. Alone in the Dark -- 1982, Jack Sholder
157. The Beyond -- 1981, Lucio Fulci
156. Ernest Scared Stupid -- 1991, John R. Cherry III
155. I Saw the Devil -- 2010, Kim Jee-Woon

153. The Company of Wolves -- 1984, Neil Jordan
152. April Fool's Day -- 1986, Fred Walton
151. The Fog -- 1980, John Carpenter
So many movies here that I love. Please excuse me, I'm gonna go hug this chunk o' list for a while.
oh my gaaaaahhhhhd I love April Fool's Day so much
1. Stunned at only one vote for The Fog.
ReplyDelete2. Chris Sarandon should have won an Oscar for Fright Night.
TOTALLY shocked about THE FOG. I think I even died a little inside.
ReplyDeleteI have only ever seen the crappy 2008 remake of April Fool's Day. Am I doing myself a massive disservice by letting that put me off the original?!?
ReplyDeleteOh I love the Fog. it would make favorites list easily. But scary? No! I want to live in a town plagued by fog that includes leprous ghosts! It would be a dream come true! Even my grisly and inevitable death would be worth it!!!
ReplyDelete"Am I doing myself a massive disservice by letting that put me off the original?!?"
ReplyDeleteThe remake is nothing like the original. I don't just mean that it's bad (I think it is), it's not even really a remake, it's so dissimilar.
If you dig 80s slasher movies, you should like the original! Personally, I love it. Deborah Foreman and Amy Steel, how can you go wrong?
Don't know if I've ever considered it really scary, but I love me some "Fright Night." Sarandon's choice of sweaters should have at the very least nabbed the film consideration for a Costume Design nomination.
ReplyDeleteAnd Martin, you have to watch the original! As Stacie said, completely different film and actually good so yeah, check it out.
I voted for April Fool's Day. It was one of the first horror films I dared to watch. I couldn't sit through the last jump scare. After the twist, as soon as I realized that something else was about to happen, I had to leave the room. Muffy and her big knife through the kitchen's door scared the hell out of me!
ReplyDeleteI remember when I was a kid and my interest in horror films was just starting to emerge I rented a large, lavishly illustrated book about horror films from the library. There was a prominently placed full page photo in it of that bit in 'The Company Of Wolves' where the fella has torn his whole face off. That sure made an impression like a big slap mark on my poor little developing brain.
ReplyDeleteIt seems good to note somewhere that I voted based on movies that scared me, but not on horror movies that I really like. there are a ton of horror movies that I really like that didn't scare me. Which is why I didn't vote on awesome movies like The Fog or Company of Wolves, both of which I love.
ReplyDeleteAlso, let it be known that whoever voter for Ernest Scared Stupid is a awesome person!!!!!!!
"I voted based on movies that scared me, but not on horror movies that I really like"
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, that's what this list is all about. The 'favorites' happened back in 2010. This time around it's interesting to see how the two lists match up (or don't, more likely).
