Any excuse to post this picture. Any excuse at all.
Confession: I've never seen Superman III. Confession: I've only seen Richard Donner's Superman once, and I haven't seen any of the remakes. Confession: I don't really like Superman! Except for All-Star Superman, I liked that a lot. Confession: I don't actually watch superhero movies...of the modern era, I've seen the first two Spider-Man flicks, the first two X-Men movies, and The Dark Knight. Confession: I don't know why I'm telling you all of this, but there it is.
Hell yes to The Wizard of Oz! I don't know anyone who isn't at least a little freaked out my the flying monkeys. I found this while looking for a picture of them. You're welcome.
I hate Superman and everything he stands for, but I have a soft spot for Superman III. It's one of the 80iest movie ever made. And Asshole Superman is my very favorite Superman. He's just a complete dick. Fun!
ReplyDeleteThe SUNSET BLVD. vote was mine - I know that many consider Norma Desmond a glorious mess and, as RuPaul taught us, a glorious mess = high camp, but I'm beside myself whenever I see this thing.
ReplyDeleteI believe I know exactly which scene the SUPERMAN III voter is thinking of.
It seems to me there are two potentially scary parts in "Superman III"
ReplyDeleteFirst, Asshole Superman could probably freak a kid out.
Second, when the villain's sister gets turned into a murderous robot at the climax, that could probably freak a kid out, too.
Damn, I forgot about the Wizard of Oz! That bit where the wicked witch of the ...(East..?)'s legs curl up and slide underneath the house... *shudder*
ReplyDeleteThose dogs are actual fuggin' awesome. Now I want dogs like that, so I can dress them as flying monkeys all year round. Until they kill me in my sleep.
ReplyDeleteSuperman III was one of my votes. It's basically a comedy, but the cyborg towards the end is proper horrifying. Even as an adult.
ReplyDeleteThose poor dogs. Look at their faces! They know the horror of the costumes their evil owner put them in.
ReplyDeleteHeck, *I* was a little scared of Margaret Hamilton when I saw the Wizard of Oz in IMAX 3D a couple weeks ago. Or at least a little startled when she makes her surprise explosive entrance into the syrupy-lollipop proceedings of Munchkinland. There's not a false note in her personification of (attempted) kid-killing evil. Mocking Dorothy from the crystal ball as she's draining Dorothy's life with the hourglass ("Auntie Em, I'm Frightened! Ahhh hahahahahaha!") is the icing on the cake.
