- Even if that mask was the only thing it had going for it, Alice, Sweet Alice would still be a classic!
- One time a friend of mine mistakenly called In the Mouth of Madness "A Mouthful of Madness" and I think about that every time the movie comes up. And it comes up a lot, it's a pretty great film.
- In his Fave 20 list, Ben Raphael Sher mentioned the attention Daughters of Darkness gets these days, and he's so right. It wasn't that long ago that it wasn't discussed in the mainstream at all, and now it seems like it's everywhere. It's a worthy film, of course, I just find these kinds of cycles interesting. The shifting zeitgeist will only become more apparent as we continue the countdown!
- The Vanishing is devastating. That ending is an unparalleled gut punch, ay yi yi.
INSIDE is such a ball-tearer of a movie. And I still think I'm the only person who noticed that you see Beatrice Dalle just casually walk into the house in the background of a shot. I've not heard anybody else spot that, even when the movie is mentioned on these clickbait YouTube channels.
ReplyDeleteDigital kisses to the 3 other Starry Eyes fans out there
ReplyDeleteI love The Gate too. Young Stephen Dorff was great and I definitely crushed on his dorky friend Terry the death metal nerd as I was about the same age as them. The face-melting parents! And the claymation demons! AHHH!
ReplyDeleteThe Vanishing was one of my votes. Just one of the best.
ReplyDeleteTourist Trap is so weird to me just because the Rifleman is the bad guy.
I first saw the Gate on VHS sometime in the late 80s, and I've always liked it.
The Vanishing totally almost made my list. I love that film!
ReplyDeleteAm I a bad person for not having watched Annihilation yet?
ReplyDeleteTourist Trap is today's kick myself entry. Such an odd little film. Hillbilly stereotypes! Mannequins! Unexplained powers.....why not?
ReplyDelete@Peter I have not watched it either, so if anything we're both due a cone of shame?
I remember Stephen King writing about TOURIST TRAP as his own little 'undiscovered gem' back in DANSE MACABRE. I still haven't seen it, though.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to see Happy Death Day getting the love it deserves, what a fun as heck movie! Also, I don't know how I forgot to put The Gate on my list, I saw it for the first time on tv after trick or treating when I was like eleven...chowing down on halloween candy at like midnight, makeup still not completely washed off...oh memories!
ReplyDeleteAnnihilation came sooooo close to making my list.
ReplyDeleteJust watched Alice, Sweet Alice thanks to Kanopy streaming. I knew, just knew, it wasn't Alice. Ha. Wait...
ReplyDeleteFeeling despondent that the Paris Hilton version of House of Wax received more votes than The Sentinel.
