- (crowd chants) Or-phan! Or-phan! Or-phan! She sure is different! I still love that bonkers movie so much. I'm also still waiting for Esther's head to fall off when she removes her velvet choker...
- Of Nightbreed, a reader says: "The monsters-as-good-guys angle was still pretty fresh at the time, and as the years have passed I've grown to love it as an LGBTQIA parable."
- Can me pathetic if you will ("Oh don't worry, I will!" -- you), but I'm still hanging onto a sliver of hope for that All Cheerleaders Die sequel. What a fun movie, I'm glad more folks are getting hip to it.
- "Yes, it's a comedy, but there is 100% a dark supernatural event at the heart of it. The best cast you could ever want, and dialogue that is forever memorable," says a reader about Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, and so say we all.
- Upon seeing Jacob's Ladder in today's list chunk, I thought "Hmm. What has that purveyor of lite-n-sexy sleaze Adrian Lyne been up to? Sure has been a while." It turns out he has a new movie coming next year (or whenever), his first since 2002: Dark Water, an adaptation of a very "Patricia Highsmith" Patricia Highsmith novel, if you know what I mean. Love the book and I'm looking forward to it...Ben Affleck is perfect casting, same as he was for Gone Girl.
My precious Lair of the White Worm! You guys. Can we just discuss Lady Sylvia Marsh until the end of time? Maybe a quick break to visit Midian on a Nightbreed re-watch. I totally agree that it works as a parable.

ReplyDeleteLair of the White Worm is a goddamn treasure. Peak Ken Russell, a mountain we should all long to climb.
ReplyDeleteORPHAN is one of the best acted and directed pieces of trash I've ever seen.
ReplyDelete@Peter - IT'S SO GOOD!!!! I never stop hoping Lady Sylvia Marsh will defeat the squares. With those boots, how can she fail?
ReplyDeleteBecause the game is rigged! Hugh Grant is such a cheater!
DeleteI'm one of the weirdos who voted for Climax. How can you not like an dance/horror movie with improvised dialogue?
ReplyDeleteI am a little surprised that Black Sunday is more popular than Black Sabbath. Great movie though. I almost picked it.
Friday the 13th Part VII is probably my favorite for sentimental reasons in that it was the first one I saw and it scared the shit out of me when I was eight or nine. Plus Jason vs. Carrie is just too good.
I love the Lair of the White Worm.
I nearly included both Climax and Lair of the White Worm, and now I am full of regret that 20 doesn't come after 21 and 22.
DeleteMy love for Elvira Mistress of the Dark the Movie knows no bounds. I have seen it more times than I can count and will forever sing its praises.
ReplyDeleteAnd WOW, Lair of the White Worm! Dang I love that movie.
@Peter - Fucking Hugh "Patriarchy" Grant. There, I said it.
