  • That clip will never, ever get old! Seeing Pieces on here (and immediately thinking of the above clip) (and the girl skateboarding straight into a giant mirror) (and the waterbed murder)...I thought why oh WHY isn't Pieces on my list? It just demonstrates how difficult this process can be, and how all our lists would probably consist of 500 movies if there were no restrictions. The point is, PIECES!
  • Psycho II fucking rules. It should not be as good as it is! The Norman Bates story did not need to continue after the first film! But I'm glad it did because Psycho II is terrific (and Psycho III is terrifically bonkers) (and Psycho IV stars Olivia Hussey). I just hate that not only did Meg Tilly have a terrible time shooting that film (her worst experience, actually), the narrative for years was that she was the problem with her difficult, diva-like behavior, which...well, if there's one thing the last few years have proven, it's that we should always believe reports of "difficult" actresses, right??!
  • Salò, I say nò nò thank you! Too much for my pansy-ass.
  • Relic is fantastic, very eerie at times and ultimately very moving. I watched it twice during my 24 hour rental period because I am that cool.
  • I did not know that Alan Ormsby co-directed Popcorn?? I'm learning a lot this year, I love SHOCKtober.

This chunk o' list would be an amazing marathon just by itself. Rare Exports is a beloved Christmas classic in my house!

I think I am the only person on Earth who wasn't bugged by Salo much at all. I don't say this to prove my bonafides as a big strong manly man because come on, I fucked Ernest Hemingway. On an Elephant! During a dust-storm! I only say it because I really expected Salo to disturb me more, and it didn't. I mean what's a little poop-eating I say? I shrug at your poop-eating! Just another night on safari with ol' insatiable Ernest Hemingway...

Eh, Salò, it’s an indictment of fascism with a lot of breasts and feces. Not so shocking in 2020, where it’s all breasts and feces. I love Sante Sanger, just because I had a roommate who wanted other people to love it, so he kept taking groups of friends to see it, and then was kind of sad they suffered trauma. It’s a hard movie, and Jodorowsky is not a good person, but it’s also a spectacle.
